Title: Diru
Post by: xKojix on August 06, 2007, 07:36:46 AM
Just out of a curious question, aside from the family values tour, has anyone else met Diru at other concerts? I met them at their show in Denver CO, on 02/16/07 and all I can say is they are very chill and fun guys. However never got to meet Kyo, he went to bed early that night. Great way to celebrate his birthday lol

There are hardly any cds worth pre-ordering.

I don't think anyone can keep a serious discussion in Japanese Music forums if their life depended on it, ESPECIALLY when it's regarding this band. However, I'd love to see this place prove me wrong, honestly.

I haven't met the band, but i've seen them twice. When they were at FVT in Tampa, I  was across from them when they were meeting and greeting. I decided not to shake their hand because it would be so quick and...empty like.  I got a clear view at Die and Kaoru though, and it was pretty cool to see them up close like that. They look...very groomed which I found kinda hilarious. They play this raw, brutal music, yet keep a constant state of cleanliness lol.

One day i'd love to meet them after the show and just give them a handshake and conversing with them like adults and let them see they have some normal, level-headed fans.

I don't understand why people keep raising the issue of DeG overall. Knowing full well it could turn into a fangirl/boy raving spot or a full blown argument. That's just me though.

I personally loved them until vulgar , and even vulgar was tolerable , now they are just crap , there really isn't another way to put it for me. I was turned off by Kyo's directions with whatever he calls his lyrical style now. Other than that long live stuff pre-vulgar. I crack out the cds once in a blue moon these days.

I like the music they've been putting out recently, but prefer their older stuff.  Kyo definitely needs to sing more, in my opinion.  He has a great voice. I think songs like Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tamerai ni Hohoemi are a thousand times more powerful than screaming would ever be. It has its place, but not so much and so often.

One day i'd love to meet them after the show and just give them a handshake and conversing with them like adults and let them see they have some normal, level-headed fans.

Same here. I've met Kyo at FVT but that wasn't exactly a long 5 seconds. It would be nice to talk to them all about their influences, change in style, etc.

For me, I used to be a "I love it all" Dir en grey fan. I liked Gauze, Macabre...that whole era of music. I think since last year however, I've grown out of love with their older music. It just...doesn't capture the level of emotion and force that the newer albums dish out. Hell, even Kisou I find...boring lately. The intensity and production of the albums six Ugly and beyond have been just mind-blowing to me. I totally understand and get the direction they're going towards. They're influenced by the bands of the west lately yes [Muse comes to mind], but they still have their own sound to it, and have not SOLELY become Death Metal, or Metalcore or Hard Rock/Nu-Metal. They blend those styles of music and fuse it with their own style and it creates this unique sound for them. I love it, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Give me 'The Deeper Vileness' over 'Schwein no Isu' anyday.

^ i basically am the same way ... i was a love it all fan to but  as time went on i listened to the older stuff less ...well except for kisou <3 (which is still my favorite album)

i don't really know why i like the newer stuff more... I've never been the type to like that kind of music *in fact i used to hate it and couldn't understand why people could listen to all that screaming xD and to me all metal/or any kind of heavy heavy rock was all screaming nonsense* but somehow deg made me like it... it's strange...and from that I've grown to like other bands that have that metally/heavy sound (don't shoot me, genre impaired remember) ... even though as of MOAB kyo has gone all screamy (cuz honestly i don't think WTD was that bad with screaming at all) the overall songs impact me more i think then let's say cage does... yea...

I like certain albums when I'm in certain moods. Sometimes I can't stand their new stuff, and sometimes that's all I want to listen to.

I do though miss the times when you could ask someone "Hey, do you like Dir en grey?" and if they said yeah, you could start talking about all sorts of Jrock things. But now it seems like first I ask if the person likes Dir en grey just to make sure he/she is open to music from another country. Then I have to ask if they also like The GazettE or some other band. Most of the time they don't know wtf I'm talking about. v.v  And some people like them just because they're "sicker" than the next band. That just bothers me with any band. If the answer to the question of "Why do you like this band?" is something like "Oh because the lead singer is HOT!" or "The band members are pyro freaks," then I just lose respect for that person. Bands are supposed to be about the music first, right?  ???

yup we were talking about it at another forum... so apparently it's supposed to be different from anything they've ever done...so we're all taking guess on what it shall be...i quickly said techno ...but meh they've added bits and pieces before ...so now i think the consensus is music to get stoned too ...especially with a name like dozing green..

all things aside though i'm freaking excited since it feels like it's been awhile ... i look forward to it and seeing as this and tsubasa are coming out the same day i will be an extremely happy little girl

new single Dozing Green, 10/24/07. holla. discuss. high hopes?

Yey, what nice news to come home to! 8D I was wondering when another single would be released.

I'm leaning toward thinking it'll be along the lines of Ryoujoku no Ame for some reason (melodic with a bit of screams thrown in), but something different from what they've done in the past? Hm...that could be anything from techno-style stuff to operatic vocals in the background. XD Hopefully they won't go the 'rap-route' which I've noticed a few bands have been doing in certain songs..  The thought of Kyo rapping makes me die a little inside. >_o;

As for the name, it kinda makes me think Dozing Green = sleepy, desolate sort of landscape. Maybe they're going to shock us all with a totally mellow song or something! XD

Random thought: Search for Dozing Green to get a bunch of graffiti art/artists sites and a few hip-hop links.
..Okay, now I'm a little nervous. *waits patiently until the 24th*

lol well i wouldn't be surprise if kyo started rapping ... haven't you seen him lately ..he's such a pimp =]

no but actually i'm pretty set on thinking it's a slow song *looking at the pictures on their website and the stuff laround it ...it definately has that roujoku no ame , embryo vibe*. at the same time the name dozing green makes me think of shoegaze or post rock or smth though i doubt it ...we'll see i can't wait for them to put up a freaken sample

Title: Re: Diru
Post by: signal to noise on August 30, 2007, 11:16:11 PM
i really hope its like Ryoujoku no Ame type stuff. i really thought Clever Sleazoid and Ryoujoku no Ame had a good direction in where their music was going, but then they went to Family Values tour and thought "holy crap America loves heavy messy music" so their album took that direction. so hopefully they are back to evolving further from where they were BEFORE Marrow. i kindof wonder if its gonna have like a post-hardcore sound, like more so than Vulgar and Withering did, and not so much of a metal sound as Marrow did. for those who listen to american bands... im thinking along the lines of like Thrice and The Used, like bands who are considered in the post-hardcore genre, but play around with the sound a lot.

That song ( Ryoujoku no Ame ) made me think the album was going to be decent , because that song was decent , boy was a lied to.

I do think it's time for them to disband or try other projects or something.

anywhoo i would definitely like it if they went back to withering or vulgar and worked there way from there again =] i liked marrow of a bone but  as far as newer works are concerned vulgar and withering still top it...so if they went back more that route it would be lovely ~

I'm really looking forward to this single. I love the direction their music has taken as of Vulgar and beyond. I like their old stuff too but I think what they're doing now is more exciting.

Random thought: Search for Dozing Green to get a bunch of graffiti art/artists sites and a few hip-hop links.

Nice find =] There seems to be an artist named Doze Green. I wonder if he could be their inspiration. But it may be a coincidence. Which makes me wonder if dozing green could be slang for something. Then again, it could be just random.

This is supposed to be a serious dicussion forum, not a cheap shot forum, leave that shit for the flame bait section ok children? Thanks.

Anyway, I have no idea what to expect with the new single. Their names have been weird for ages and so because of that, I don't really care about the song title, because that should never dictate how good a song is *looks at an ignorant comment couple of posts up*. So yea I hope for the best, their last singles have been instant listeners for me so I expect no less with them. They're doing great and expanding their sound all over the world, so to disband would be a petty, retarded thing, it wouldn't happen anytime soon.

Except for the fact that their current 'sound' is inferior to that of their previous works. Anyone who's listened to Diru long enough can tell you that their new works thus far have been nothing more but a waste of time an money for both the artists and the fans.

depends on the listener...

besides the way i feel about it is if you don't like their new work then don't listen to it ...but there are plenty of people who do so to say they should disband to me is pretty silly. not to mention if they were to disband it would be silly on their part because even if they're losing old fans they're still gaining new ones.(that is if that's their motivation for making music) Even so making music shouldn't be about the fans anyway ...it should be about making music you like and if you get fans in the process then that's all good and well. If they enjoy playing the music they're doing then more power to them and they should continue to do so. If they really really cared about what people or their old fans thought of them they would've disbanded a long time ago when they got all those hateful comments from fans after they first started changing their sound.

Here's something they've never done before, disband.
Try that out.  >:(

thats uncalled for. everyone knows that Kyo, Kaoru, Die, Toshiya, and Shinya are all retarded for eachother.

im personally very excited for this single. just because not everyone liked Marrow doesnt mean this single will suck. if you guys havent noticed, none of their albums sound exactly the same. they are a constantly evolving band. if you dont like their current sound, just wait, or just dont fucking complain for once.

Uh huh, you didn't read what I said. It's ok, I just corrected you.

Anyway signal, they'll always bitch, because this band stopped doing generic j-rock music, and stopped with the whole refined sound and music that the entire scene was and now is notorious for. They're not like the other Japanese bands out there, and they resent and bitch about it, to try and make themselves feel better.

It's like this, I used to listen to Linkin Park and KoRn...they were good in the beginning for me and I loved them a lot. However, after the years went by, their music didn't appeal to me, so you know what I did? I stopped listening to them and stopped following their music. I haven't heard Minutes to Midnight and I listened to Untitled from KoRn briefly and then deleted it. See, thats what you should with bands you have no more interest in. Instead you got these jap music freaks that bitch about a band for the sake of bitching about a band, because they know they dont like it, yet they'll keep listening to think that maybe the band will pull a 'Cage' or an 'Audrey' out of their asses. It's predictable with this scene's fandom, and it's pathetic.

Just a question.
How long have you all been listening to Dir en grey?

Title: Re: Diru
Post by: ghostface on September 01, 2007, 01:46:53 PM
A year. I started with Kisou and went through their discography up to MoaB, then listened to Gazue, Missa and Macabre.

Does that prove anything in your book? Cos I don't think it matters how long you've been listening to a band. It rather depends on the listener. Some people like their music to be versatile and are okay with any changes the band's music may undergo, others get attached to a specific sound and tend to measure everything else against it. And don't forget that people's tastes evolve too, so even if you've been listening to a band from the very beginning your opinion as to what's good and bad about their music tends to change too. The band makes more music, and you listen to other bands, you get fascinated by new things or rediscover music you liked in the past and so on.

So I think your question is irrelevant for this discussion, unless you were just curious.

by now it's been 3 years but i don't think it matters much ...One of my friends has only been listening to them for 2 and she likes their older stuff more =P like i said before it just depends on the listener. unless you were just curious (because i don't know how many times that question is followed by some remark that ends up making me want to e-slap the person.)

besides when i first started listening to them i liked everything equally..over time i just began to like the newer stuff more.  Even more so i like the fact that they have different types of music in their discography instead of being a one trick pony and having 7 Gauzes under their belt. I've heard the argument before that newer fans just don't get it because they haven't been with Deg from the begging or the older years... and whatever other excuses older fans like to give...however like karasu said up there holds true for me too ...back in the day I loved linkin park (yes don't throw rocks at me) blah blah blah they go away for a while they release minutes to midnight ... it's different and i don't like it (at all i hate it actually)...So what do i do? i delete off my computer and don't listen to it. If there's a conversation about LP then i say "you know i used to like them but their recent stuff isn't doing it 'for me " and leave it at that. I don't go into every LP thread i can find and go "You know what dammit i wish they'd disband" or "Oh my fucking gawd theyh suck so much i wish they'd just die" or whatever just to start a flame war... there's no point... it's a waste of your time and a waste of mine to start a flame war ...especially in what is supposed to be a flameless forum where we discuss the artists not fight each other like babies over them ...that's what the flame pit is for... but for some reason when it comes to dir en grey people just can't let go and people just can't be civil what is so fascinating about them that makes me people go crazy? i don't get it but whatever =/

DaI 6 has gotten the idea ;D!

Seriously, I just wish we could discuss this band normally without the fighting, without the fangirling. They're a band now, a simple band.

Anyway to the question above, ive been listening to them for about....6 years I would say. I got into them around the time Filth, Jessica and Embryo came out as singles. I didn't know those songs at the time, but my friend is school sent me two songs from Dir en grey, Tsumi to Batsu and Raison Detre. I was all "wtf is this, its so not like what ive ever heard" But that was it, I was hooked. Personally, I thought i was introduced to them the right way, aka not hearing that damn song 'Cage' first lmao. :P

Fully agree.
Nobody's being forced to listen to them. If you like them it's okay. If you don't like them it's also okay. If you used to like them but you don't like their new stuff just forget about them and find yourself something you like better. And accept the fact that there are fans who like their new style. To me it's as simple as that. It's absolutely irrelevant for how long you've been listening to them. I totally understand that their fanbase keeps changing - the same way that their musical styles have been changing. I think any band that doesn't stick to one type of sound or style will experience such fluctuation. But I doubt there are many bands whose fans are that bitchy.

As for the new single I just read in another forum that some people heard them play a new song during the rehearsals for their recent shows in Germany. They said it was a rather slow song and they liked it. Well, I wasn't there myself - just read it. And, of course, there's no guarantee it was this particular song.

And I would never judge a deg song by its title without hearing it. They have too many songs with strange titles. So it doesn't surprise me at all.

Thier slow songs are better , I prefer Kyo singing to his slobber/rasp bussiness. Embryo is till one of thier stronger songs. I personally can't get tired of Kisou , Gauze and Macabre. Everything else is wtf to me.

Mind you , I haven't actively listened to DeG for more than 3 songs in a row in over 3 years.

but for some reason when it comes to dir en grey people just can't let go and people just can't be civil what is so fascinating about them that makes me people go crazy? i don't get it but whatever =/

My guess is the reactions..many people have (and still do) overreact to things that are said about them, so it's guaranteed that insulting the band has a pretty good chance of pissing people off, as opposed to insulting I dunno, ∀NTI FEMINISM or something.  Just look at the epic lulz that the Diru myspace hacker helped create! XD

Anyways, I've been listening to them since summer 2005. I heard Garden and thought it was amazing, like nothing I had heard before (I had been a pop-rock and j-pop listener). After Garden I had heard some of Macabre which I liked, and then Withering to Death which HATED at first. However once I learned more about the band, read translations, heard opinions and found different reviews and etc, it grew on me after listening to it more and more. Now I'd have to say Macabre is a favorite album of mine, along with Kisou and Missa. Oh, and the Marrow unplugged versions too. *O* Their new stuff is still good, I just personally prefer Kyo's singing to raw screams. But to each their own..I think it's pretty cool how they never keep the same style for too long. It not ony allows for more musical freedom (Dir en grey = change is expected!!!!) but also for more people to be fans..if you don't like the new album with the 'metal' sound, there's always another or the ones that came before it.

On the title: I realized, since when have their titles been an obvious clue to what the song is about? I can't think of any off the top of my head..but I doubt there are many. o_o It could be some strange double meaning that relates to something entirely different, but you're able to possibly link it to something the song is about with little chance you may be right doing so! XD If that makes sense.. O_O;

but for some reason when it comes to dir en grey people just can't let go and people just can't be civil what is so fascinating about them that makes me people go crazy? i don't get it but whatever =/

However once I learned more about the band, read translations, heard opinions and found different reviews and etc, it grew on me after listening to it more and more. lol that made sense until about the last line i think i get it what you're saying though

oh yes! the hacker thing was hilarious ...i got in on it after it blew over and all but reading all the comments provided soo many lulz =/ i just think both sides can be childish when it comes to them ...it's sad...but maybe one day there will be a miracle and peace can be made between deg fans... maybe

lol so today i was talking to one of my more gangsta friends back home and i was telling them how excited i was about upcoming singles, and he's all like " oh here she goes with her Japanese crap again" when i mentioned the title of diru's single was dozing green...he stopped and asked "what do they know about that" ...I said "about what?" ...and he tells me that dozing green apparently means to smoke weed...

Actually that's not surprising. At all. In fact, it explains quite a few things. Or maybe that's just me again.  ::)

LMAO I <3 you fangy

Asking for peace between Dir fans is like asking for world peace..you can get all the people in the world to pray for it, but it's highly unlikely that it'll happen in our lifetimes. </pessimist>
Meh..we can still hope though..I guess. ^^;

i really hope its like Ryoujoku no Ame type stuff. i really thought Clever Sleazoid and Ryoujoku no Ame had a good direction in where their music was going

I really would like something like those singles too =)

But I think there's still hope. As their official myspace says:

"DOZING GREEN will give fans a chance to hear a brand new track with a brand new sound for the band:

It took a long session of trial and error before DIR EN GREY came to the final version of DOZING GREEN. This track is definitely one that represents the new DIR EN GREY combined with elements that has never been in their music before."

So, what do you guys think?

i bet its gonna be very Deftones-sounding. its a sound they havent really done, plus theyve been doing songs with new sounds based off the bands theyve played with. after playing with Bury Your Dead at Family Values Tour they made 'Lie Buried With a Vengeance'.

Title: Re: Diru

Hmm. I don't know. I love all the Deg albums [never got into Missa, though], but The Marrow of a Bone is not for me at all. Every loud song has the same feel and heaviness, and is just downright offensive vocally [coming from me, that's pretty bad!]. For the record, while sixUgly and Vulgar split the fanbase up, I enjoyed both of them just as much as their previous albums.

However, there are a few songs which really caught my attention, and I believe that they are the best that they've made since kisou. Conceived Sorrow is bliss, and Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tomadoi ni Hohoemi is probably among my top ten Deg songs ~ever~.

The Pledge is alright, a kind of average song as far as Dir en grey goes, and if I were to pick one of the loud songs, it would probably be Grief... this is stretching, though. The single version of Clever Sleazoid was much better than the album one. I really want to like this album, but I'm having trouble. :'(

The comment on their myspace gives me a lot of hope!

"DOZING GREEN will give fans a chance to hear a brand new track with a brand new sound for the band"

Please change your sound! ANYTHING but TMOAB!

That being said, I will definitely download first, and if I like it, I'll buy it for real.

knowing Dir en grey, they arent gonna repeat what they just did last. they're done with the Marrow stuff. their sound is just constantly changing, i think every new cd they make they dont just evolve for one albums worth time, its like they jumped 5 albums of redefining themselves. of course there are high high chances that the song will still be heavy, but not exactly like Marrow.

well they've played this song a few times live now, for a[knot] and for general shows too... has anyone read anything about a fans thoughts of it and how it sounds?

I've heard from someone who was at one of the Europe shows that they heard Diru playing some completely new song as a practice before the show..that could have been it. They said it was heavy, yet slow and kind of mellow. I wish I could remember what live they said it was..I talk to too many people on soulseek. xD;;

if its heavy but slow and mellow, its most likely a Deftones-esque song.

Don't you understand that Dir en grey _want_ to sell out outside of Japan? That's why westernish heavy stuff is written  -the marrow of a bone is an album of three songs, Conceived sorrow, fatal believer and the pledge, other, minus singles, are simple fillers, that should please not related to jrock listeners.
Ignore them and wait for new single - Diru have lots of great older stuff to listen, and not to mention, they actually play macabre songs at japanese lives - that's also some kind of signal.

Personally, I think MUCC is the definition of 'sell out' but that's just me :P

When Dir en grey come back to the states, id really love if they played their six Ugly material. For me, that was the best era. Original visuals but not gaudy and overdone, and kickass music with great production. Who didn't love Kaoru's Picnic Jacket? But id like them to play some Gauze and Macabre stuff too, but not the generic jrock/vk stuff, more like the songs that have a neutral original sound.

And fuck if they played Mitsu to Tsuba...that would be godlike. That was my first Dir en grey song, fuck Cage. lmao.

i think my old song requests for their future lives would have to be like... Tsumi to Batsu/Mitsu to Tsuba, Raison D'etre, Deity, Zakuro, 24ko Cylinder, and Karasu. and anything off of Six Ugly or Vulgar that theyve kept in their more recent rotation, like Marmalade Chainsaw, Red...[em], Drain Away, Hades, Ugly.

I'm seriously wondering how Hydra is gonna sound all updated now. They should re-make all their harder songs to give them a 'marrow' sound. I know i'll be crucified for saying that, but seriously to hear ZAN with an attitude and ferocity such as The Deeper Vileness....sounds hot.

yeah i thought about that. their older heavy songs deserve a truly heavy sound. ZAN would sound nuts, as with Schwein no Isu. the "Geist Seele Wille Zelle" would sound like the "go back to doing" from Garbage. it would be so insane.

omg, s-rry, this suddenly gone too hard - I meant they wanted to sell - sell out is more usable for mucc, or miyavi e.g.
'Namamekashiki Ansoku Tamerai ni Hohoemi' is a simple 'tender song that has to be' - and it does seem filling for me as Withering to death had similarly composed, similarly sounding track - I don't really care about balladish side of Dir en grey since Mushi. Their harder songs sound much more interesting.

I think a band has 'sold out' once they have action figures, mugs, and other pointless artefacts made which are nothing to do with the music at all.

ehh, i dont think action figures necessarily make you sell out. Misfits had action figures in the 80s. of course its the question NOW whether or not theyve sold out... i'd say yes, but not in the 80s. i dont think little peripharels like that make you sell out as long as it still has to do with your band. i mean, hell, i'd want action figures of my favorite bands. but if your music is used to advertise products that have nothing to do with your music, then thats really selling out. like artists whos music is on car commercials and crap.

Peripherals =/= action figures.

but if your music is used to advertise products that have nothing to do with your music, then thats really selling out. like artists whos music is on car commercials and crap.

They give these companies permission to use their songs because it's also advertising their music. Based on your logic, you can say the same thing about band tees since a cotton-polyester blend has nothing to do with their music.

Dir en grey must of sold out then , because they do have little kubricks of them from years ago. They are for your cell phone.

Eh , I don't think they've sold out , I just think sound wise they have gotten rather bad. That's my only reason for hating on them. I used to be a huge DeG fan , then vulgar , wtd and so on came out and =/

As for the car commercials , that can't even count as selling out either , because they use flloyd's money , and all kinds of bands that are no longer around , or are old and known as classics like metallica and such on commericals for the last 10 years.

When it comes to japanese bands , I think they've sold out once they do an anime intro. I don't like anime all that much , so it irks me to even see it on an anime. B-T has done two anime intros in thier career , and that makes me sad. It attracts like the worse kind of fans when it's on anime.

I would not mind having deg action figures from like raison detre or mitsu to tsuba. I'd rock those on my desk.

Child Prey was used as anime opening, here it goes ))
I can't say that making an anime intro is equal to selling out, but for some bands it's a very fast and...'cheap' way to get popular, when they throw average or below average songs into anime promotion - see LmC, 12012, Ancafe

erm iono i don't necessarily think doing an anime theme is selling out but that's just me...what would be more like it too me would be like if Dir en grey did one of those pepsi commercials or smth xD and the idea of action figures i would kind of put in there but only because it would creep me out but erm i don't quite think that's selling out either >_> but what do i know anyway ^_^;;

Title: Re: Diru
Post by: mjmclean on September 27, 2007, 09:30:03 PM
Maybe 'selling out' is when an artist stops caring about the music they are making and starts to care more about the money. Every artist wants to make money and wants their art to be a success, but some decide that they'll stick to a formula that works and release merchandise which is unrelated to the mantra of how the band thought previously. They know that they have rabid fanboys/fangirls out there, and they are willing to sacrifice their integrity by ripping their fans off with things they don't need, but will buy just so they have collected everything.

I don't think Dir en grey have sold out. They are changing their sound, which alienates a large percentage of their fanbase, which is like the opposite thing to selling out. It doesn't really matter that Child Prey was used in an anime, seeing as that was still about the music and not about products.

i've seen them 3 times and theres only been 3 songs that they played all 3 times, and there was quite a lot they only played 1 out of the 3 times i've seen them. i saw them at Family Values, Inward Scream 07, and Tour 07 Marrow of a Bone/ Deftones tour and i've gotten a good variety of different songs each time.

As for action figures/dolls, why does the Shaving Ken doll come to mind? I can see it now..you have a doll of Kaoru, and when you add cold water to his tiny little sponge razor and 'shave' his chin, bye bye beard.

On a more serious note: That sample definitely convinced me to preorder. xD

10 seconds doesn't give me any sort of idea. it should be 30s.

Soup Bone had a couple ( as in two ) songs that we ok. I will get the new albums like always and will hope that it is remotely passable.

Me personally they are releasing too much stuff too fast. I'd rather have one album every 2 - 3 years , that usually means that there was a whole lot of work and edits put into it.

you know i was thinking... Dozing Green, the production of how the instruments sound make it sound like they recorded it in the same session as Marrow. i just think that the way the vocals, guitars, and drums are recorded make it sound like its from the album. anyone else feel that way? but im sure when we hear more than 10 seconds of the chorus it will probably have this weird style that wasnt noted in Marrow.

It's not as bad as MUCC, they release crap almost every other month. It's horrible, and  by the same singles over and over again, it shows theyre running outta ideas.

they're slowing down a little bit now. this year has been..the two 2 singles, and a live album. but they still are releasing their new single this month and a new crazy dvd. but thats better than when they released like...a single, a mini-album, a live dvd, and another single all 4 months in a row.

a band who releases stuff REALLLLY fast is Nightmare. this year has been a new album, a new single, a live dvd, another new single is out tomorrow, and another single is gonna be out next month. expect another new cd soon hahah.

you know i was thinking...

I noticed it too. o_o Maybe it's just that it was recorded in the same studio under similar settings, unlike, for example, the single version of Ryoujoku no Ame (recorded in a studio in Germany) with a different 'sound' to it.

If anything, I think Dir en grey has chilled out with the releases. They were psycho back in 2002/2003 with releases, but they've calmed down a lot nowadays.

Yeah i was thinking they just had it under the same settings and such as when recording The Marrow. and on the topic of Ryoujoku no Ame, i hate it when people refer to the Marrow version as a re-recording (not that im saying you were saying this, i dont even know if you did). the drums and vocals were changed. the guitar is literally the same recorded guitar from the single. its nowhere near the complete re-recording of Clever Sleazoid. the level of difference between the single and album versions is like the same as it was for Child Prey.

yeah, Diru has really calmed down with their releases, especially compared to the pace of newer bands. Diru releases stuff like as steadily as an american band does, but they just have the singles in between to keep the fans from being bored. they dont even release dvds all that often. i really want another live concert dvd, but im not expecting one until like another single is out. but i really want to see one with all the songs from The Marrow live. and i want another PV dvd, but they've only had like 5 videos since Average Fury & Average Psycho, so they probably wont have another one until the next album.

I will give deg this , at least they do follow up singles with albums. I despises bands whose whole catalog is allllll singles and random compilations and crap. *cough*mostvkbands*cough*

Cleaver Sleazoid on the album was 10xs better than the single version. I actually liked the album version. I thought the single was amazingly awful , but I'll take that single over the complete entirety of the Soup Bone album.

that would be interesting, but i dont see it happening. for the dvds they usually film big shows from japan, and they have yet to do a show in the US the size of one they have done in japan. i'd choose a dvd from Nippon Budokan over any american venue anyday. however, it would be cool to see a jrock dvd with moshing in it.

oh and 마왕, why do you call it Soup Bone???

Mainly because I think it's a silly title. Anything I don't care for  I usually convert the name into something to ammuse me more. Kinda like how I call WTD( withering ) 'wtf' . Those two are my least favorite albums by them , so I never use the correct titles.

It's not really directed twoards anyone or anything. It's just a habit of mine. I do it to almost every band. Another example is Metallicas St.Anger. I call it 'St.we should of stopped'.

It was an alright album , it just wasn't Metallica.

At any rate , Hopefully the next album will be decent. I can't judge a song with 10 seconds. I thought Ame was one of the better newer songs so I had high hopes for the album.

i think even though "soup bone" wasnt mostly songs that the jrock fans were into, it still had some songs that they could appreciate, like Conceived Sorrow and The Pledge. as for me, hell, i like every song on it.  ;D

I don't think for me it's the 'jrock' appeal. I just don't like Kyo's screaming voice as much as I love his singing voice. I love heavy music , the faster the better. I just wish he'd mix up his vocals more and stop screaming nearly as much. Other than that , I still listen to most of the stuff. I just happen to skip 90% of the last couple of the albums in the cd player. I do remember liking The Pledge thinking it was one of the better songs.

i agree i like him singing more but at the same time i don't mind the screaming really all that much(which is strange because in most cases i would but it kind of fits the songs for me so i don't mind i so much). plus for me the best thing about TMOAB were the guitars anyway...they were so awesome. *drools*

oh but i was wondering arch why don't you really like withering to death though? it doesn't have nearly as much screaming as Marrow and well even the songs that kind of do like garbage were pretty cool. ='[

when i first heard Marrow i couldnt tell if the guitars sounded really bad or really good. so after i listened to it like twice straight through, i realized how amazing the recorded sound of the guitars sound. there needs to be more heavy albums with that...crunch and grind that the guitars on Marrow have.

oh and as for WTD and the balance of singing and screaming... and i think that could make it potentially their best album vocal wise. but i mean, iMo WTD could be their best all around album...

Kyo really streches his vocal ability in that album, he reaches falsettos like its no big deal. Hes like Matt Bellamy from Muse in that way. I'm sure Kyo said in an interview he was influenced by Muse.

WTD is my second favorite album after kisou =] (okay i lie sometimes it changes btw vulgar and WTD but atm and for awhile now it's been WTD) where as on TMOAB i focus mostly on the amazing guitar work ...WTD i can focus on the amazingness of the band as whole. and yes Kyo does some wicked stuff on that record i really liked it =]

thats cool. its fucking rare to hear people in japanese bands actually naming their influences. its really a shame when they say "oh it just comes from myself" because in all honesty, its the things you like that make who you are. does anyone know what other bands and such Dir en grey have said they are into and that have influenced them? i know Kyo likes Buck-Tick, and i think as a whole they all like X-Japan and Luna Sea (duh), but i havent heard about any other bands they like.

well theyve never said themselves that they have been influenced by them, but i think its safe to assume that there was some influence on their newest record from the bands on Family Values tour. for example, Lie Buried With a Vengeance was written after they came back from family values, and it sounds similar to Bury Your Dead's style and i've seen Kaoru and Die wearing Bury Your Dead shirts. but theres also the fact that atleast almost half the record was already written before that. their 3 singles, Fatal Believer, and Conceived Sorrow had all been written before playing on Family Values tour. and i think on the special Marrow of a Bone site, within their notes on the songs, they mention what they wrote before and after the tour, and like what was written not too long after Withering.

Yea, this entire single reeks of amazingness. Dozing Green sounds better, and it's longer. Hydra -666- is not even the same song, but it's equally just as great as Dozing Green, if not better than it. Agitated live was really really good. Finally, I hear a chant that's not over-flooded by people screaming.

Man, I am glad I pre-ordered this.

Title: Re: Diru
Post by: Kyο on October 23, 2007, 12:08:22 AM
*shock*

I'm impressed. Dozing Green with better quality wins. It'll be one hell of a song to hear live, but it'll be interesting to see how Kyo will possibly go about re-creating the four girly screams at the end. >_____> I was expecting Hydra -666- to be butchered to the degree that the album version of Clever Sleazoid was on TMOAB, but that wasn't the case at all. *_* Asom live was good too, with the interesting intro leading up to the actual song.

Dozing Green - absolutely amazing
Hydra 666 - i like the original A LOT more, but this one isnt too bad, i like the ripshit screaming, i just think it feels empty as hell and slower without the throbbing techno.
ASOM live - the intro is really really cool...

Skeletons and centipedes and helecopters oh my. >_> What was all that?
At least the parts with Diru playing were good, and the doll thing at least made some sort of sense.

They really need to learn LIGHTING = GOOD. And Kyo needs to get the hair out of his eyes.
With a song like that I had imagined the pv to be some sort of amazing creation with well-done cutscenes and a really epic set. But no, that's what happens when they're touring so much.

And I could have sworn that I've seen a manga drawn in the same style once before, which is strange because I'm really not into anime/manga much at all. It looked really familiar though.

I actually like Grief PV. It has some great shots of the band, I can totally picture them in my mind as I'm typing this. Even if they lasted like a split second, and I only watched the video a few times, they stood out to me as uber cool. Yeah, I love the editing in this video.

I still haven't listened to the new single. Waiting for my copy :)

i love the new video. and i thought Grief was mad cool too. i really want them to make another PV dvd soon, but i think they've only done like 5 or 6 videos since Average Fury & Average Psycho.  they did.... dead tree (which probably wouldnt be on it anyway since its on IWAW bootlegged), Clever Sleazoid, Ryoujoku no Ame, ASOM, Grief, and Dozing Green. yeah... we'd have to wait until more singles another album for one.

who else hopes they make a new live dvd soon? i really wanna see one with all the songs from The Marrow live, even though they'd have to do another big show where they play them all, because im pretty sure their more recent shows have had a good mixture of new and old songs. It Withers and Withers and Code of Vulgar[ism] were such amazing live dvds, they need to make one to that caliber with all the new songs.

A new live dvd would be nice. I'd especially love to see Dozing Green, The Pledge, and Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tamerai ni Hohoemi. *__* Have they even played Namamekashiki at any recent lives?

and, fuck, I really expected a not-worse-than-obscure PV, why did they thrown _this_ out!!! T_T

I'm not sure what you mean by that though >.<
you know, that 15-seconds preview was so promising
simply because the best of footage was introduced
and the rest of the video is filmed much worse.
Obscure was great in terms of production - great direction, cinefilm instead of digital cameras for filming, blah blah blah

Okay so I still hate the song but, to me, the video was semi-good. A 'good video' to me is one where you can understand what the band is trying to show you. I get the whole political aspect to it, but then they threw in random crap that just confused the hell out of me, like the manga/comic/whatever bits. I mean why did they include the big sphincter with teeth that ate Boba Fett? And I've definitely seen the whole 'playing in a room full of screens' thing before...though I can't remember whose video it was in.

Now, is it just the lighting or are all of them actually blond? That part scared me.

Hmm I know it wasn't a Tool video I saw it in, but I guess if it was in one of their videos too then it's even more unoriginal than I thought. Not saying that Tool is unoriginal, just the whole screen thing.

Die...blond...? That doesn't work in my head. I mean I saw it, but it's just...weird.

Wow, Dozing Green is amazing. I love the song-writing in this song, there's so much texture to the guitars, it's awesome. And I'm very impressed with the range of screams and noises Kyo has come up for this song, his singing is beautiful too. I love the eerie effect of repeating the same high-pitched scream at the end.

Hydra 666 owns. I like how they recreated this song, it's better than any remix could ever be.

ASoM live - great intro and an awesome performance but the vocal is very indistinct, it's annoying.

I had imagined the pv to be some sort of amazing creation with well-done cutscenes and a really epic set.

I think the PV was trying to be anything but that. I love the result. It's different than most videos. I agree with Do As Eternity on this, simple effects are part of its charm and I like the live-quality of the video.

some info on their new single you can see on their site www.direngrey.co.jp (http://www.direngrey.co.jp)

tracklist-
1. GLASS SKIN
2. undecided
3. AGITATED SCREAMS OF MAGGOTS -UNPLUGGED-
4. Ryoujoku no Ame (LIVE at YOKOHAMA BLITZ on May 23, 2008)

looks like 'undecided' will be a refreshed version, similiar to Hydra -666-, to better fit their current sound. but i wonder what ASOM "unplugged" is supposed to sound like. probably screaming over just ambient noise or something. i dont think Dir en grey really understands the meaning behind "unplugged" as we saw from the version of Conceived Sorrow on the Marrow bonus disc, so i dont really know what to expect.

cdjapan sez:

Dir en grey's new album "Uroboros" draws it's name from the cyclical serpent--the mystical symbol of a snake consuming its own tale. What better image is there for a band that frequently consumes itself in order to make a more powerful, perfect, whole? Like the Uroboros of legend, Dir en grey's new album marks a sort of return for the band, revisiting the pre-"Withering to Death" era with what is scheduled to be the band's most diverse, brooding, and creative release yet. Non-screaming vocals are set to take on a stronger part in the compositions--competing with new intruments like mandolins. Thematically "Uroboros" considers topics of guilt and reincarnation.

I'll probably be getting the limited [2 disc] edition. I regretted not getting The Marrow of a Bone at the time because of those great acoustic remixes. And hey, he says he's actually going to be singing on this one rather than focussing on vomiting his intestines out, so that's got to be worth something.

However, I can't see myself forking out £60 for an album that hasn't even got a track list or cover art yet. What if it's got a shit, goofy picture of Kyo grinning madly, doing a thumbs-up, and having a speech bubble coming out of his mouth in which he's saying "LOL you actually bought this drivel". In Japanese, of course.

theres a clip of Glass Skin on their website now. like what they did from Dozing Green, its like a 10 second clip.

from what i can gather and assume from this tiny clip, it sounds like they have taken the skills theyve acquired in the past few years and applied them to a more eclectic sound, if anything more closer to their first 3 albums than their later heavier ones.

just a guess though. after that 10 second part it could go into a Bury Your Dead-esque chugging open C minor chord breakdown.

It's not like giving everyone 30 seconds or a minute is going to hurt sales. 10 seconds is just ridiculous.

I hope the production on their next album is good. Marrow was too loud, had too much static/fuzz, and was too rough. Withering felt like it was covered in that clearcoat stuff they put on everything at Disneyland. It should be like Macabre where everything sounds good. And Toshiya should play with a pick. It should not be a victim of the "loudness wars". They should do everything that I say because it will make their music better.

1. great song
2. greatest song
3. greaterest song
I vote for "it sucks and makes less sense that Japanese version"
Though they rimmed the US fans with care, that's true.

yeah, well said. i'd recommend them all, but those 2 are probably the best for getting into the band. i even like Withering to Death in its gloss-finished sound and glory.

i dunno man. im seeing them the day Uroboros is released in Japan, and i saw them live on the day Marrow dropped in the Japan as well, and that night they played 6 songs off Marrow, 8 off Withering, 3 off Vulgar, and 1 off Six Ugly.

so im kindof thinking like 1/3 Uroboros, 1/3 Marrow, 1/3 bunch of other stuff.

i've always thought it was a cool band name for a band who only makes good music 1/10th of the time.

any insight on this chance to meet the band on their current tour? their myspace bulletin is saying that if you buy the cd you have a chance to meet them afte the show. so is it a raffle like they did with TMOAB? and do they (if its even more than one member) actually stay awhile or do they sign a few cds and be like "okei baibai americans"?

to anyone wondering what the setlists are looking like, heres my show (in order)-

Sa Bir
Obscure
Grief
Agitated Screams of Maggots
Disabled Complexes
The Fatal Believer
Toguro
Namamekashiki Ansoku, Tamerai ni Hohoemi
Agitated Screams of Maggots unplugged (basically an interlude)
Conceived Sorrow
Glass Skin
Ryoujoku no Ame
Hydra 666
Merciless Cult
The Deeper Vileness
Dozing Green
Repitition of Hatred

-ENCORE-
Kodou
Gaika, Chinmoku Ga Nemuru Koro
Clever Sleazoid
Saku
The IIID Empire

i didnt buy the new cd to do the meet the band thing, since they were only selling the normal edition and i planned on getting the special edition with the dvd and didnt want to buy 2 of the cd (despite how im getting the japanese one in the mail soon...) just to meet like 2 of them for 2 seconds and get autographs when i already have em all. harsh right?

got me a tour shirt and tour hoodie, pretty expensive, bring loads of money if you plan on getting merch, there were 3 different shirts at $30 each, the hoodie is $55, new album for $15, poster for $15, set of 5 pins for $10, and then i think a $2 sticker

they played quite well, very energetic, and the backdrop + lights were really cool, the closest theyve gotten here to the look of their japanese shows.

oh and the opening band is fucking horrible.

finally got my japanese copy of Uroboros in the mail. i got the 2 disc japanese version, not that crazy ass one. to anyone that cares, its physical appearance is very much identical to the american edition that has the dvd (which i also got  ;D ) but the packaging is nicer, the booklet has a little bit more art, plus has both english and japanese lyrics (the american one only has english). oh and the the discs come in those white protection sleeves, in the american one theyre just in the case. but its mostly identical, it has an outside case, and then inside has 2 inside pieces, one being the lyrics/liner notes, and then another being the case for the disc. its kindof like the special edition of TMOAB if anyone has that.

I just got my American Uroboros after waiting 11 days for Tower.com's horrible free shipping. The packaging is pretty ghetto. A flimsy box with another flimsy box holding the CDs. And I still can't read any of it. Size 3 dark red font on a black background. English-only lyrics is just pouring salt on the wounds.

I've seen them 3 times here in Dallas. I have only personally met Die and Kaoru. Yeah unfortunately Kyo didn't come out at the Palladium Ballroom concert in 08. I was really hoping to because I had a custome made glass ringed necklace to give to him and a card. Which was translated into (katakana or was it hiragana..) by a friend. I gave it to what's her name, Diru's translator chick to give to Kyo.

Time to be completely honest...I really can't stand most of the newer songs.  Vulgar was the last album in which I liked around 90% of the songs...WtD had a couple of songs that I liked (Kodou was amazing).  Since then, they have been a hit-or-miss.  The only songs I have actually liked a lot since are Glass Skin, The Pledge, and of course, Vinushka.  Personally, I will always love the band, and will always go to their show if I can...but I can't say I approve of the direction that their music is heading at all.  Songs like yurameki, mask, cage, and filth will always give me enough hope to keep with the band.
