Title: exist†trace
Post by: fangy89 on July 14, 2007, 07:15:07 PM
First off: Yay for intelligent discussions!  :D

Anywho. So yeah, exist†trace is coming out with the new liquid single in 4 days and I'm looking forward to it. I think they're progressing well as a band and Jyou's singing is getting much better, as are their composing skills. I'm not too fond of their new look though...it seems too 'generic'. But yeah, so what are people's opinions?  ;D

ah i like exist(can't make the crossy thingy)trace and I'm excited for the upcoming single too. I think they are definitely getting better because when i first heard them i wasn't all to into them. I thought they were good but nothing I'd listen to often but they've been progressing well and i can't wait to see how well they do with the new single. ^^

I should check them out more then if they're getting better.  Because to be honest; when I first heard them I thought it was cool they were an all girl vk band; but the music wasn't anything special that I would listen to over again.  I think it'd help them out if they changed their fashion; because they really don't stand out too much.  I know part of that is because they are an indie band; but if they went for something a little more original; I think it'd really help them.

They recently changed their look: (http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a291/fangy89/l_7565621be9b2d3d8fea680930ad30fc5.jpg)

Personally, I liked their old one better. This one just looks like 'everyone else'.
Yeah their music at first was kind of simple, especially JUDEA, but I think they've been slowly improving. The guitar-work seems to be getting less sluggish and more technical, I mean it's still not all "zomg amazing!" but I do think they have a lot of potential. And Jyou is actually starting to sing now! lol

What I find amusing is when the people that usually attack fangirls and the like.. fanboy over exist trace.

Yeah I know, it's so disappointing. Seems like they're following all the VK trends lol.

I've seen people like that too. It just confused me cuz I was all "eh? fanboy?" and it was pretty random. But whatevah, moving on.

*Looks at the new look* I like some of the changes.  I mean; now they look like a real VK band and not some girls off the street that I might see in my Gothic and Lolita Bible magazines.  BUT...I agree they do look very generic VK now.  But they're still new; I think they'll grow.

In regards to fanboys vs fangirls...both can be bad...at the same time; it can't be helped.  I mean I was in the second row in the middle and like 10ft away from Gackt at the S.K.I.N. debut and before the concert I had snuck into the arena with my friend and saw Yoshiki practicing piano and drums on stage.  I was so hyped up for that concert; I admit; I was a total fangirl and screaming the whole time.  BUT I did manage to hear the music and I quieted down at the right parts when they were playing softly or talking.  I just think; if you are going to fault fangirls than don't be one yourself.  Like the saying; don't throw stones if you live in a glass house; or something like that lol; ya know what I mean.

SOooo...I think I have all of Exist Trace music; what songs do you all recommend?

hehe it's true it looks a bit more professional but meh i kinda like that whole girl off the street thing haha

as for fan boy vs. fan girl.. to be honest i don't have real problems with either...it's natural to fangirl/boy just some people are so hard-core about it... what bothers me is liking a band just for their looks ...that's what truly bothers me about hard-core fan girl-boys... there's nothing wrong with being liking the looks and thinking thats hot or w.e just don't make that the only criteria for choosing music ^^;; ... i actually kinda like talking to normal fan girl/boys a bit more then the elitist types cuz fan people can be seriously hilarious xD and iono i figure I'm a fan girl lol just not a rabid one >_>

i really like The Colors , venom, sacrifice baby, water, & marchen

Well yeah, everyone's got a little fanboy/girl in em...it's just a matter of when you decide to 'release' em lol. I just can't stand the 24/7 "I worship at the shrine of ____" ones. They scare me o_o.

Aaaand my favorites are JUDEA (not the best song in the world but an awesome one to head-bang to  ;D), Maboroshii mado no kurayami no naka de, end-less, water, Kiba (kinda slow, sad-ish song), Anecdote, and Marchen. They don't really have that much stuff so you could give everything a once-over, actually lol.

I kinda like their new look, actually.. you can tell they're all girls now XD Before, I had thought only the singer was female until I was told otherwise. Not really feelin Mally's new look though.. the hair scares me XD I'm pretty excited for their new cd.. I loved their last one. Jyo is one of the few "screamers" I can actually stand listening to.

To be honest, I think they get more credit than they deserve as musicians simply for being female. I don't really find them to be all that talented or unique, but I'm not saying they're a BAD band. Just kind of.. there.

Most of the time, E+T praise is accompanied by "OMG MIKO IS SOOOO HOT". That might have something to do with it. Male or female though, I still find them mediocre. Not bad, not GREAT. Just kinda.. there.

That's pretty much exactly my opinion of them. While I think it's awesome to see female bands gaining prominence as Visual Kei, I don't think Exist†Trace is really all that good. And I really wanted to like them, too, when I found out that they were female (or at least had female vocals, as that's all the description said when I first listened to them). I just can't get into them. Maybe future releases will be better.

And I dislike how much they get fanboy-ed just for how pretty some of them are.

Well I can pretty much say the same thing about Gackt. To me, Gackt's vocals have really taken a beating and I can't listen to any of his ballads without cringing. But his fangirls are 10 times worse than all bands combined...well maybe with the exception of Dir en grey, but anyway, a lot of his fangirls are like "omg he's soooo kawaii *humps monitor*". So I mean it all depends on your musical tastes, some people like Gackt while others don't and some people like exist†trace while others don't. There's always gonna be those annoying fanboys/girls who drool all over some Jrocker's looks without paying any attention to their music.

yah I get the sense that Exist Trace gets more slack because they're girls.  But I can't really say since I never thoroughly checked them out or anything.

@ Fangy

I like Gackt a lot and I consider myself a fangirl when it comes to him.  BUT; I don't like his ballads either.  They make me cringe too.  His other stuff; I like.  And the songs with S.K.I.N.; I also like very much.

true but as fangy was getting at... it happens with the vk guys too ... see the way i see it ...it's not that bad saying stuff like that if you're really liking the music ... now if that was the only praise and not just an accompaniment then that would be a different thing... but I'm sure they're not just getting noticed because of their looks because alot of the all female groups have pretty members too...i think people just think they have alot of potential though ..they may not be amazing now but they are improving which is a good thing for a band if you ask me ...only room to go up and it makes it more interesting ^^

^I used to be that way with VK.  I wanted to check out everything.  "OH they're pretty; I like their name"; it was shallow I know.  But now that I've heard so many bands; like nearly 200.  I know I can't download them all and I know a lot of them are really bad or just nothing special and worth my time.  I do buy magazines and sometimes a band's look will catch my eyes.  But it's not so much their good looks or anything as the perception they invoke with their style; if that makes any sense.  If a band keeps popping up again and again; that stands out to me too.  But I never make a solid decision on whether a band is good or bad until I hear the music.  I mean; take Abingdon Boys School.  The lead singer is attractive (Takanori Nishikawa); but the rest of the band isn't imo.  But they're music rocks and I love the band anyways; every member.  And I like their style; it stands out.  So I don't know; looks/style are/is important as far as giving an impression; but in the end; for me it comes down to the music.  I don't put pictures on my ipod; just music.  I'm not going to listen to a shitty or mediocre song because the band is pretty and colorful and stupid stuff like that.

anywho; sorry to take this off topic.  To get it back on topic...I kinda liked how Exist Trace's old style made them look like a male VK band.  Their new style definately makes them look more girly; well mostly anyways ^^

hehe but see there's nothing wrong with that at all ^^ i'm the same way...i think that's sensible but when someone is listening to a band just because they think their members are hot... that just irks me and i really don't understand how anyone could subject themselves to crap because the people who make the music are hot...>.< it just defies reason to me...

and back on topic: yea that's what i think too...i thought it was cool they looked like a male band xD

Gackt = POP. Pop fanbase is a little different then alternative fanbases (mostly) but it seems with vkieee its the same. A big shame and turn off.

And about exist trace, dont really like them. Never got into them and never really cared for their looks.

They already have something that seperates them from most VK bands. They are an ALL GIRL visual kei band.

I think this band is fucking awful, and it's annoying that they get so much attention because of their gender.  The idea of a female, hard rock visual band is great; I want to see more women in the scene, and especially ones who belong there, and have enough talent and determination to stand out in a male-dominated genre, but they fall short of the mark.

Maybe if they could learn how to play, and their vocalist removed the pubes from the back of her throat, maybe.

Honestly, I don't think a lot of you would admit to liking them if they were male.

It's all about personal taste, if they suck to you they might not to anyone else..
I personally (shamefully, yes) thought they were all guys.. and I thought I'd keep a eye on them until they released something.

A few weeks later, they release something and I thought the vocalist was strange sounding. So like a idiot, I listened to them, this brand new MALE band.

Then someone told me they were female, and I flipped out. Did I like them more? no, just the same.

I was very shocked to see them where they are, which is as you know, Sequence Records. I thought that was really interesting, seeing as Danger Gang and similar aren't even that far.

My opinion on these ladies, is that they, sure, are beautiful, but I like their music not their gender. That's pretty shallow.

I'm sure there are a few vk fans that do have brains, and enjoy music the way it was originally intended. Not this fan boy/girl fest of "Oh my god he/she is so sexy!" sex appeal only goes so far.

These girls go past this. They have a powerful guitarist, bassist, and drummer. Not to mention that Jyo has a very nice voice. I happen to love their lyrics a lot too.

That wasn't my point.  I mean that they get attention because they're female in most cases, not because they have talent.

It's not a personal attack, and I didn't direct what I said to every single person who posted a reply to this topic (I said "a lot of you", after all), but you have to admit, they wouldn't be half as popular if they were male, given their playing.

Same goes for デンジャー☆ギャング though I think they're actually talented and show promise.

I think it's far better than their old stuff. It has GOOD production, and it doesn't sound hollow. And most importantly, I didn't shut it off before the songs ended!

It's weird with VK fans. Most of the time "less is better" comes to mind. It's like VK fans LIKE crappy production and bad writing. I dunno. -shrug-

Sometimes unperfect production can be part of a band's charm, but a lot of the time it just detracts from the songwriting. A band like Raphael, even though they're old, I couldn't even imagine hearing with shiny, modern, professional production. The way their songs were recorded is part of what makes them endearing to me.

There's no excuse for liking bad songwriting outside of cerebral palsy, though.

I just don't like the weird effect thingy they put over the vocals in liquid...it reminded me of bad industrial >_>

But Under mind is actually insanely good.  :D

I have most of thier stuff , I have yet to listen to it. I'm trying to get around to it . I'm very anti female rock groups for some reason. I keep seeing good things about them  , so I will try them in the future.
