Title: Kanji tattoo
Post by: residentevilrulz on July 02, 2007, 07:39:57 AM
Does anyone know what the vertical Kanji tattoos are called? Like the one on Miyavi's arm? http://kakamshiimahzu.tripod.com/FairNaoKa/photo_01_05.jpg
Also, what do they typically express? I am thinking of getting one, but I'd like to know a lot about them before I get one.

Now that's something I always wanted to have as a kanji tattoo.  :D

Kanji tattoos are only cool if you know what they mean. I once met a guy who had 手 (hand) tattooed on his arm, believing it meant "power".  ::)

Oh my... I can't believe someone would do that...  I wouldn't get one unless I was certain that I knew what it meant and how to say it..

yeah i hate it when people get them because they are told what they meant and they think its cool. when it comes to getting something of another language and writing, you need to be 100% sure YOURSELF that it says what it says. i bet you there are thousands of people with kanji tattoos that mean completely different things than what they thought they meant.

if I got a kanji tattoo it would be the kanji for dream "yume" and whether or not I would have the kanji for child "ko" added after that; I don't know.  But I'm certain what those look like in kanji form.  That would be the only kanji I would get and that's because Yumeko has been my nickname for nearly a decade.

well if I took mine straight from a Japanese-english dictionary, and checked multiple sources, I'm sure it'd be fine. But mainly what I want to know is what do the vertical series of kanji symbols usually stand for? Like.. what idea is a vertical tattoo like that supposed to express? Or is it just meant to mean whatever you want it to? I don't know if I'm explaining this right..

Japanese is usually written top to bottom and right to left when it's vertical.  When it's written horizontal its usually written left to right.  yah kinda confusing; I know.  As far as I'm aware; there's no special significance to it.  You could have the same thing written both ways and the meaning is exactly the same.  How you choose to write it; vertical or horizontal; is up to you.

Whatever asshole. Shut the fuck up. You're one of those assholes that just loves to flame people for no reason. I don't care what you think. I don't think anyone else does either

Then why'd you make this thread, dumbass?

I didn't make the thread to hear about how I'm a fag if I don't get a latin tattoo. Hence, I don't care what you think. I made the thread to know more about Kanji tattoos. I have 2 words for you that may be of help for future reference

hah, I like the pic fangy. And @ Vessicator, here are some words of advice.
1) Stop trying to be cool on the internet
2) Stop flaming because you suck at it. Big time.
3) Take an english class and learn how to spell "Business"
Thank you

I'd rather take my chances.

How do I becomed cool on the internets anyways? D:
Touche on the 'Serious Business'. Not my picture, should have used another one.
Now suck off a Japanese businessman and get the fuck out, weeaboo fag.

Here's to you trying to mimic Miyavi, fucking fanboy douchebag:

Instead of getting some Kanji you should get "I am a dumbass" tattoed. You see, this way you will save the time and energy trying to explain what the kanji means and how you're justified in having some foreign letters that NOONE (excepts JPN ppl and maybe not even them...). You can save time this way because nobody will stop to ask you, but you'll still get all the same attention anyways by people laughing at you.

Look I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just trying to save you some time. Skipping a step, and saving you time. I could be nice and say "Don't get it" that's an old argument.

Look man I'm saving you time. And time is money. Don't you like money? It's green.

Like lucky charms.

I love this forum, and how every single thread eventually succumbs to some sort of flamewar.

One day some smug TV producer is gonna round up all the regular posters and make a Flavor of Love-esque reality show. I can just feel it.

Vessicator, you make me laugh. I think it's so funny how you think you're getting me all heated and offending me. When in reality you're just making an ass of yourself for many reasons. And as far as me being a Miyavi fanboy, that's humorous. Miyavi is far from the only person on this earth that has a vertical Kanji tattoo. He is just the only one I know of with a tattoo like that and.. you know.. why am I wasting my time explaining this to you? You obviously don't take any of it in. I don't know why people like you get so much entertainment out of trying (and failing miserably) to get people like me all flustered. Get a life, and maybe some friends. tl;dr
Before you cut your hair and get your tattoos, lose a bit of weight first. Oh, I almost forgot: turn Japanese.

Besides, if I fail miserably, then why are you even responding? oh lawd.

tattoos are ugly. enough said. They look cheap.

there is one exception. I think it'll be awesome to have a tattoo on your chest of a girl. i saw this once

A front facing girl with her legs spread on your chest! Your nipples are the tattoos nipples, your bellybutton is the cunthole!

if you're going to get a kanji tattoo, GET SOMEONE THAT KNOWS KANJI TO DO IT.  one wrong stroke could change the meaning.  christ, i've had a friend who had a tattoo done in romaji and it wasn't done correctly.

what possessed her to want romaji, i don't know....

otherwise i'd go with Alice and say, don't get one.  no one will know what they mean and you'll be explaining it all the time.  not to mention almost every guy with a tattoo has one that says 'strength' or 'power'.
